Musculoskeletal disorders are by far the most common form of work-related ill-health problems in Great Britain . In 2003/04 an estimated prevalence of 448 000 people in Great Britain suffered from a musculoskeletal disorder mainly affecting the upper limbs or neck.
Upper Limb Disorders occur as a consequence of repetitive actions and through ill body posture, (biomechanical alignment). This can be through sitting incorrectly for long periods of time, lifting incorrectly or not having suitable aids, equipment or the correct amount of space in which to work. Symptoms can occur relatively quickly or after many months or years, but are largely ignored by the majority of people and are passed off as having a stiff neck or headache.
Upper Limb Disorders can affect multiple sites or a single, specific site over a short or long period of time, and can be either acute or chronic. The most frequent areas of complaint are the shoulders, arms, hands, neck and both upper and lower back. Symptoms can be muscle tenderness, aches and pains in and around joints, dizziness, weakness, lethargy, stiffness, cramps and swelling.
We work towards strengthening muscle weakness in the problem areas and develop tool kits and programmes to increase a clients strength and mobility.
